An officer in Cape Town was pushed out of a moving minibus taxi

On Thursday a law enforcement officer in Cape Town escaped with minor injuries after being pushed out of a moving minibus taxi, a city official said.

In Manenberg at the weekend after he nearly collided with his official vehicle, said City of Cape Town safety and security mayoral committee member JP Smith ,the officer had instructed the taxi driver to pull over.

JP Smith also said “as the officer approached the vehicle, he noticed it was very full and asked a passenger to alight so that he could get in and take a closer look.”

Allegedly the taxi driver pulled off and the officer was pushed out of the minibus.

He was pushed by men operating the sliding door. According to a police statement he sustained injuries to his elbows and ribs, but was not hospitalised,

Smith said the officer  that was pushed out of the minibus would be back at work on Friday. The reason for that is because  he would undergo a follow-up medical examination.

The 25-year-old man  who pushed the officer was arrested on an attempted murder charge, said Western Cape police.

The 25-year-old who pushed the officer out of the moving vehicle  appeared in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court this week. The matter was postponed to April 22, said Constable Noloyiso Rwexana.

Smith also said that “we are noticing an unfortunate and disturbing trend where suspects, but also members of the public, are targeting enforcement staff “.

He hoped the court dealing with the matter would send a strong message to those who treated the law with contempt.
