KwaZulu-Natal police seized over R95 million worth of cocaine hidden inside a shipping container in the Durban harbour, said police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane on Thursday.
Zwane said the container was intercepted by members of the Hawks on Tuesday night.
A total of 95 blocks of cocaine, each weighing about 1kg, were found stacked next to the door of the container.
Zwane said there was clear evidence the seal of the container had been tampered with.
“It is suspected that the drugs were intended to be removed before the container could be handed to the owner,” he said.
It is understood the container had been shipped from Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, on 5 September. The ship docked in Durban on Tuesday.
No arrests have been made.
